Karma Tousignant- Ironman!!!

NMC's Latest Ironman is Karma Tousignant! Karma did the Ford Ironman out in Arizona on November the 20th.

Her times were:
2.4 mi swim - 1:20:27
112 mile bike - 6:27:03
26.2 mile run - 3:53:52

Total time 12:01:01

Karma had a great race start to finish and said she loved every minute of it and felt great the whole way. She even said she can't wait to do her next Ironman, which may be as soon as this upcoming summer (stay tuned). Weather conditions were perfect all day starting out in the 50's and peaking out in the mid 70's during the day. She had signed up last year to do the race with her sister Renee Defeo and brother in-law Rodney Kinney who live only a few miles from the race. They had alot of fun preparing for the race together. Unfortunately Renee was not able to make the bike cutoff due to some technical issues but Rod was able to finish in 13:23:11. Renee already signed up for next year to give it another go and Rod is taking a well deserved break. Karma and I plan to be there next November to cheer Renee on.

One other heartwarming thing was that on the morning she was leaving for the airport to fly to the race in AZ, she found that her many Lunenburg tri-friends and her family had completely covered the street we live on with good luck signs and they extended all the way into New Hampshire where she was going to the airport. She was really touched by that.

Mill Cities Relay Recap!!!

Another Mill Cities Relay has come and gone- and the North Medford Club posted another strong showing. We didn't get named on the cup- but we did come in 4th place overall.

In Team competition NMC placed in 2 Divisions-
Our Mixed 60's Team took First Place. Team consisted of Linda Usher, Vin Rivard, and Brian Byrne.
Also- our Womens 50's team consisting of Darlene Hoover, Deb Parker, and Carol Allain took First Place as well.
We also received a Top 5 Overall finish by one of our teams: Will Lary, Brandon Davis, Mike Grasela, Jon Miganowicz, and Matt Spano ran a 2:36 overall to come in 5th place.
This was another banner year numbers wise- as we had 20 Teams running!

A HUGE THANKS to Jeff Gould for doing what he does for us every year. He gets all these folks together in mostly a cohesive group, showing folks they can run and have a great time. This year he put out 20 teams for us- our highest ever. Also posted is a link to Jeff's re-cap of events- as only he can truly put words around!!!

Donna's been working overtime to get this one out folks!!!! Happy Reading.

  • Late Fall 2011
  • 2012 Boston Marathon Waivers (Updated Info 12/12/11)

Waivers for 2012 Boston Marathon: For this year NMC has been given 12 Waivers, and the cost is $300 UNTIL the END of January. On February the 1st- the cost goes up to $350, and anytime after that the BAA can possibly reject the Waiver Application- although they will try to accomodate each submission.

If you are granted a Waiver- you cannot give it to anyone else. If you decide NOT to use it- it MUST be turned back in to NMC through Paul McDermott so that it can be re- awarded to someone else in the Club. These are tracked by number between the Club and the BAA. These are strictly for use by members of the North Medford Running Club.

To be eligible for a waiver you must have volunteer points earned in year 2011. Those with more points get priority. The Coordinator for the volunteer points and waiver grant is Paul McDermott.

To date- there are 15 Club Members who have expressed interest in a waiver. The order they will be handed out in will be determined by the number of Volunteer points received during 2011.

If you are interested in a waiver- please send mail to Paul McDermott

Election of Officers and Board of Directors for 2012

Nomination of Board and Officers: In an attempt to make a smoother and quicker election process(YES- this is an election meeting)- we are taking nominations in advance. If you know of someone who would like to get involved with Club leadership- you can nominate them between now and the meeting. We will of course verify the person is interested!!! If you are interested- you can nominate yourself. ALL Club positions are open- and you must have been a Club Member for at least one year, and in good standing. Positions are good for two years.

Please contact Mark Fontaine for nominations or any further information! mark.fontaine@comcast.net

    Overlook Trail Race 5K Run/Walk 10K Run

This coming Sunday 9/25 marks our annual Overlook Trail Race. This year we are again having a 5K Run and Walk, but our 5 Mile course has been pumped up to 10K- adding a leg near Crocker School, and also adding in the 2 new Bridges built last year.

Registration starts at 9AM up at the old Helicopter Landing site beyong Burbank Emergency Room, and Race begins at 10AM. Registration is $15 for the 5K, and $20 for the 10K- this is our fundraiser race- not part of our Summer Series.

Volunteers are GLADLY accepted!!! We need folks to marshall turns, man the water stop, and generally make sure nobody gets lost. The Trails are in GREAT shape, and the weather will be great.

  • Lake Winni Thoughts...

Well Autumn is here folks, because another Lake Winnipesaukee Relay season has come and gone. Saturday afternoon turned into Sunday- and all the excitement was gone- another Relay in the books.
We had a new Friday evening host location for packet pickup, we were able to cut down on the shuttle bus traffic, we had beautiful new technical commemorative race shirts in both Mens and Womens color and size!!! We had great weather- yes it was warm, but there was also a nice breeze to keep us from roasting. 76 teams battled it out, and some of the results amazed me. The Teams that were last early in the race had completely battled back and ended up in the midle of the results. It was great to see those familiar faces and teams, and what the most intriguing team name would be this year.

From the North Medford Club Officers and Directors- I would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of you out there- all of our Police Officers working exchanges or traffic, all of our Volunteers who come up here each and every year as marshalls or timers or water stoppers. More thanks to our crew of "Roadies"- those who get there early to put them up, and those who are there late- taking it all down!!! I would also like to thank the NMC Winni committee- there were surely some tough decisions to be made, and many, many phone calls and visits to be made. We surely can't forget the Runners and Running Clubs out there- who give us their support year after year, and always look forward to the next years race.

Rest assured- even though its done for this year- we need to begin the process now for next year- hope y'all come back!!!

    Upcoming Fall NMC Races

    Hi Folks-

Our Summer Series Tuesday night races have ended- BUT we still have 2 series races left on upcoming Saturdays. Summer series costs apply to both.

On 9/17 we have the South Hamilton 5 Mile Road and Trail race hosted by our own Roger Perham. This is a beautiful course that runs through Bradley Palmer State Park and back up to Asbury Grove.

On 10/22 we have the famous 4C's 5.7 mile race. Race starts at 12:10, you must wear Orange and Black, and it is also a Pot-Luck spread after the race. Race is at the Phil McGaw estate and recreation center.

On September 25th NMC will be hosting the Overlook Trail 10K. We've taken somepieces of the Burbank 5 Mile, and the old 7M course and mixed together to get a 10K out of it. This race will begin and end at the old helicopter landing pad- just beyond the Emergency Room at Burbank Hospital. 9AM Registration and 10AM run. Cost is $15 Pre- until 9/16, and $20 after and day of race. First 50 will get a T-Shirt.

Part of the course will take in the 2 new bridges that were built last summer. I will have an application link posted soon.
