NORTH MEDFORD CLUB
SOUTH HAMILTON ROAD RACE
SOUTH HAMILTON, MA
SEPTEMBER 18, 2004
5 MILES

Rain and wind from Hurricane Ivan greeted 14 runners in the annual 5 mile
race that is part of the North Medford Club's summer series. The course was
one mile on the road, two miles on the trails of Bradley Palmer State Park
and 2 miles on the road. Serious mud proved a challenge to runners to avoid
or pass through. Richard Walsh took the direct route through the mud while
Larry Thode lost time trying to avoid the mud. Larry realized avoidance was
going to take too much time so he proceeded to charge through also. The race
director lost several places when his shoe came off in an early deep mud
hole. Other runners missed turn indicators and ran extra. Refreshments were
donated from Three Star Pizza in Beverly. An inch of rain had soaked the
course before the start with another 3./4 of an inch recorded by the finish.
